Bob Odenkirk is TV’s slipperiest lawyer as Jimmy McGill and this season is the closest we’ve gotten to him becoming Saul Goodman, one of the greatest (and shadiest) attorneys on the smallscreen.
The first four seasons of this Breaking Bad spin-off have tested Jimmy’s resolve to become a good, decent lawyer. Until now, that hasn’t worked, so he’s going to turn his back on the bar and become a no-good, criminal-defending rule-bender. This season’s “tests” include drugs, drug dealers, hitmen, murder and, of course, the Mesa Verde case pricking Jimmy in the butt… still.
The actors continue to be perfect – not one hair is out of place, from Jimmy to Kim (Rhea Seehorn) and Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito). There’s a new hurdle and solution for Jimmy around every corner. And we’re seeing more of Saul breaking through Jimmy’s skin.
“There’s an avalanche of collateral damage on the horizon. To see the pieces put into place in season 5 has been nothing short of mesmerizing,” says Steve Greene at Indiewire.com. That’s all you need to know.
Seasons 1 to 3 of Better Call Saul are available to stream on Netflix in South Africa, in case you need to catch up.
