We’re going back to Monterey

Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz), Renata (Laura Dern) and Jane (Shailene Woodley) may seem, on the surface, as if they’re all similarly perfect, living their best lives in the wealthy seaside town of Monterey, California.

But, as we discovered in Season 1 of HBO’s smash-hit series Big Little Lies, based on the Liane Moriarty novel, they’re neither as similar as they first appear, nor are they perfect.

Between the five of them, they’re covering up the murder of a prominent Monterey resident, and, though it seems, at the end of Season 1, that they’ve got away with it, we see here in the trailer for Season 2 that they’re nowhere close to being let off the hook.

What we can also see is that Meryl Streep is joining the cast, as Celeste’s mother-in-law, who has some rather pressing questions, and who is not going to back down without getting the truth.

Will she be able to extract it from any of the “Monterey Five”, or will their bond, which was forged under the most pressured of circumstances, hold up?
