Castle Rock S2
IMDb rating: 7.6/10
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 88%
A spooky anthology series drawing from the vast multiverse spawned by Stephen King’s imagination, the series unfolds in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine and features locations and themes familiar to Stephen King fans.
The first season followed attorney Henry Deaver after he returned to Castle Rock and took up the case of an inmate at Shawshank Prison. That inmate turned out to be Bill Skarsgård, fresh off the set of the movie IT, another Stephen King classic. And let’s not forget Sissy Spacek, who played Henry Deaver’s mom in a particularly haunting role (her performance in the episode called The Queen was one of the most incredible TV moments of 2018). What you might not know is that she also starred in the titular role of the film adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie – yes, the one with the pig’s blood at the prom.
In Season 2, psychopath Annie Wilkes (Lizzy Caplan from Mean Girls fame) plays the infamous nurse from hell in King’s novel Misery. More references in this season include Jerusalem’s Lot, an old burial ground that brings the dead back to life (Pet Sematary anyone?) and the Marsten House from the book Salem’s Lot, where a nest of the undead lurk.
Episode 1 aired on M-Net on Saturday 16 May, with new episodes every Saturday. Episodes begin to expire on Catch Up from 13 June.
