Emily in Paris S1
When ambitious Emily Cooper accepts a new job in Paris, she imagines her life will be a series of soirees, swanning from one risqué liaison, sipping champagne in a chateaux, to another, while draped in chic couture.
As it turns out, there are plenty of soirees and the clothes are, indeed, beautiful – but there are also ample opportunities for her to make devastating faux pas, and the most risqué thing about her life is the potentially offensive ad campaign she has to shut down as her first order of business.
Oh, she also can’t speak French. Not even a little bit.
The series is fun, and sweet, and cosy, and critics say we should appreciate it for what it is. “Emily in Paris is a confection, a series so charming and fanciful that it becomes impervious to snobbery and cynicism,” writes The Atlantic, and Boston Globe calls it “travel porn, with a plot”.
