In 1994, the world was horrified by the brutal attack on figure skater Nancy Kerrigan by thugs associated with her greatest rival, Tonya Harding. This comedy-drama goes behind the ice and sequins to look at the darker side of skating and the dysfunctional background that made Tonya Harding who she was and overshadowed her incredible talent.
The movie stars Allison Janney as Tonya’s abusive mother, LaVona Golden, in a role for which she won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Margot Robbie as Tonya was nominated for all the same awards, and the film also scored an Oscar nomination for best editing.
Reel Rundown said: “Margot Robbie is an explosive delight and [director] Craig Gillespie has found a way to make figure skating as intimidating as being initiated into the mafia.”
