I’m Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
IMDb rating: 8.8/10
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 85%
A young woman (Jessie Buckley, Chernobyl) travels with her boyfriend, Jake (Jesse Plemons, Fargo S2), to his family farm, despite having misgivings about their relationship. She meets his mother (Toni Collette, Hereditary ) and his father (David Thewlis, Fargo S3), and ends up trapped in their home with them during a snowstorm, when she starts questioning everything she thought she knew about her boyfriend, herself, and life itself.
The New York Post says, “And now, your love-it-or-loathe-it movie of 2020”, while the Financial Times says, “The result is not a horror movie exactly, but all the more unnerving for being played at a pitch of jangling disquiet when people are simply passing the vegetables.” Salon.com writes, “I’m Thinking of Ending Things is as provocative as it is exasperating. It may require repeated viewings to understand everything Kaufman is trying to achieve…” – so we think it’s safe to assume that those who adored writer-director Charlie Kaufman’s previous work, Eternal Sunshine, will like this one, too.
