Line of Duty S1-5
IMDb rating: 8.6/10
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 98%
This wildly popular series has been counted among the 50 best BBC Two shows of all time. In the first season we are introduced to an anti-corruption unit, AC-12, and the internal affairs investigation of Tony Gates (Lennie James, The Walking Dead).
All of the first four seasons, which are on Showmax, were given 100% critics’ ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Of Season 1, the New York Times wrote, “[It has] an excellent cast, skillful writing and a knack for making an exotic, unfamiliar world seem like the viewer’s second home.”
Thandie Newton’s performance has also been universally praised: “What is beyond dispute is that Thandie Newton’s DCI Roz Huntley was a startling creation, equal parts brittle anxiety and relentless, shameless calculation”, wrote the Guardian after Season 4.
In case you had any doubts that this series makes for the best crime drama binge-watch session, the Guardian also wrote, “This is less like watching TV, and more like being abducted by it, cuffed, then dragged along.”
