Meet the cast of Blessers
Blessers is guaranteed to cheer you up or send you on the path to financial relief. It follows a well-off suburban family who, through their own search for new things in life, end up in the world of Blessers and SYO (significant younger others) as the rich, older generation gift their younger counterparts the finer things in life in exchange for their time (and sometimes more).
Here’s the skinny on who’s who and where you know them from as Blessers gets you going…
Jacob Zulu (Kenneth Nkosi) is a businessman who’s living the sweet life. He works hard in the boardroom and he plays equally hard at home. The problem is that while he cares for his wife dearly, he’s not in love with her – their arranged marriage was like most others, a business deal to help the two families become more powerful side by side. The thing is, life has become routine for Jacob, he’s stuck in a rut and he needs something to spice up his daily comings and goings. And it doesn’t help that his wife constantly berates him for his health – he’s a little on the plump side.
You know Kenneth from… the comedian has turned to bigscreen movies lately, like 2017’s Five Fingers For Marseilles, as well as Hatchet Hour in 2016 – both are on Showmax. He was also Lucas for a short stint on soapie Skeem Saam and Two Shots Pulani in 2009 comedy series The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.
Michelle (Sonia Mbele) doesn’t play “yes sir” to her husband Jacob – she’s successful without him. The madam of the manor rules with an iron fist and she looks good doing it, decked in head-to-toe designer gear. Michelle doesn’t take no for an answer and her strong personality lets her dominate anyone she meets, whether in the business world or her personal life. Like Jacob, she’s tired of the monotony of her daily life and she’s ready for a fresh new adventure.
You know Sonia from… when she was still Sonia Sedibe, she specialised in soapies like Generations, Gold Diggers and Greed & Desire as Ntombi, Thuli and Thlabi. She’s also staring in upcoming SABC1 drama series Family Secrets, caught at the centre of an ugly family feud.
Ma-Lerato (Connie Chiume) is the Zulus’ domestic whose quiet persona in front of the bosses is a charade. As soon as their backs are turned, she’s gossiping with the other domestics in the neighbourhood while sipping on the Zulus’ champagne from their finest glassware. And don’t think that she’s oblivious to what’s going on in the house – she knows everyone’s secrets and she’s stacking them up to use when it suits her best.
You know Connie from… playing Mamokete on soapie Rhythm City and one of the tribal elders in Marvel’s 2018 mega hit movie Black Panther. Right now, she’s ruling the roost with more than an iron fist as crime lord and “caring” mother Mam’Sonto on Gomora.
Natasha Zulu (Six Nyamane) is Jacob and Michelle’s daughter. She’s the perfect combination of the pair – ruthless and cunning, not willing to let the cake be passed under her nose without getting a taste of the action. She’s not afraid to use her feminine wiles to get her way – especially when it comes to the world of blessers: wealthy older men (and sometimes women) who’re willing to flash and splash the cash to attract a pretty young thing (like Natasha) to be their arm candy and more. Except she’s going to bite off more than she can chew.
You know Six from… Blessers. This is her first big role. She’s had small appearances in Mbalenhle, Take Me Home and Thandolwam.
Talent (Khathutshelo Ramabulana) is an unlucky young man who sees his world fall apart when he loses his job. Thankfully he’s got a best friend who offers him work… as arm candy for a cougar. With bills to pay and no money coming in, what’s a guy to do? Talent takes the cash and is wined and dined and shown off for the hottie toyboy that he is.
You know Khathu from… Netflix South African Original series Shadow (as Max) and Queen Sono (as William).
