One hotel room, many stories. That’s the premise behind this fascinating anthology series that features all the guests who spend the night in a New York hotel room. Some episodes are hilarious, some sad, some horrifying, some thrilling – there’s something for everyone in Room 104.
Room 104 is a cult HBO anthology series from the Duplass brothers (Animals., Togetherness), which tells tales of the characters who pass through a bog standard hotel room. The genre, the characters and even the era change each half-hour episode – perfect for anyone burnt-out on bingeing. The fourth and final season even includes animated and musical episodes.
Look out for Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Harvey Guillén (What We Do In The Shadows), Kevin McKidd (Grey’s Anatomy, Trainspotting), Gary Cole (The Good Fight), and Mark Duplass (The Morning Show) – among many others. After four seasons, Room 104 still has an 88% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Collider calls Season 4 “the show’s most ambitious, surreal season yet,” describing it as “a generally lighter-toned The Twilight Zone” and pointing out that the joy of the format is that, “If you don’t like one, the next one’ll be radically different.” Similarly, IndieWire calls Season 4 “a triumphant close,” saying, “Room 104 wasn’t built to conquer the world. It was made to surprise, entrance, and inspire. Mission accomplished.”
