Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine (2020)
IMDb rating: 6.1/10
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 82%
The comedian made her name lip-syncing President Trump’s speeches and snippets from interviews in videos that went viral on the internet. Now she’s got her own comedy special, and it’s a hilarious hour of sketches featuring the who’s who of Hollywood comedy poking fun at politics, race, gender, class, sexuality, and more.
The New York Times describes the special as “a celebrity-rich, intermittently funny sketch show that hangs on a narrative of apocalyptic doom. Cooper plays a chipper morning talk-show host struggling to maintain her smile as the world around her unravels. It’s history that starts as comedy and ends as horror.”
Expect to see Maya Rudolph, Fred Armisen, Winona Ryder, Helen Mirren, Aubrey Plaza, Connie Chung and more in increasingly bizarre sketches, all directed by Russian Doll’s Natasha Lyonne.
The Atlantic says that Sarah Cooper’s comedy is not what you’d expect: “The comedian may have gone viral for ‘playing Trump’, but here, with her biggest platform yet, she demonstrates what her comedic taste really is — and it’s somewhat surprising to learn that it’s deeply weird. It’s also invigorating to watch.”
