The Amazing Race S29-30
In Season 29, for the first time ever, the 22 contestants of The Amazing Race are all complete strangers to one another. That’s right – they’re not playing in couples, parent-child pairs or as two friends. They’re teamed up with someone they’ve never met before and have to vie to win $1 million in a race around the world, to nine different countries and 17 different cities, travelling 36 000 miles as they traverse the globe.
This means that contestants had to face their greatest fears – such as window washing a skyscraper in Brazill, which was a living nightmare for those with a fear of heights – with only a stranger to support and encourage them. Stream all episodes of the season back to back to find out how this affected even the strongest contestants’ chances of winning the million.
TheWrap.com had this to say about Season 29: “Each of the 22 racers on this season was identifiable, memorable and got a full story arc” – so, in some ways, this was a winning formula.
The 30th season of the multi-Emmy-Award-winning reality show reverted to form with teams who entered as couples to begin with. This time, however, contestants included some familiar faces, such former NBA players Shawn Marion and Cedric Ceballos, Big Brother houseguests Cody Nickson and Jessica Graf, and IndyCar racers Alexander Rossi and Conor Daly.
There were also new elements added to the race, from team swapping to head-to-head competitions. The couples started off in Iceland, being tasked with crossing an enormous canyon. Keep an eye out for their African stop in episodes 7 and 8, where they have to pull off the notorious “double U turn” in Zimbabwe.
