The Grand Tour: Seamen (2019)
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May go on an epic journey across Cambodia and Vietnam – in boats. In among the fun and games, the trio experience genuine danger as they try to navigate their way through one of the world’s most iconic waterways, the Mekong Delta.
This new foray by the petrolheads has attracted a fair amount of criticism in the press (most infamously in the Independent review that tore it to pieces), but it’s undeniably watchable, if only for the disasters they encounter.
Evening Standard writes, “[Putting them in boats], which must have seemed like a good one at the time, removes the trio from their comfort zone and sends them up canals and rivers where they crash, break down and get stranded on mud flats.”
And Grand Tour fans will enjoy it for the same reasons they enjoy any of the previous episodes – there’s banter, LOL-worthy interactions with translators (Clarkson finds out the reason Vietnamese people laugh every time he says the name of his boat), slapstick pranks, and mishap after mishap.
If you fancy an hour and a half of mindless fun, Seamen will float your boat.
