The Herd: Bad witch gone good?
In the first season of Mzansi Magic’s The Herd, we are introduced to MaMngadi, the most evil character we’ve ever seen on local television. Her witchcraft sent shivers up many viewers’ spines as she not only sacrificed the lives of strangers but the life of her last-born son as well.

This unforgivable act had her other children disowning her at the end of the first season.
But it may seem that in the second season, MaMngadi has turned over a new leaf, and is adamant to not only win back the trust of her kids but also to restore the family’s legacy.
But her attempt at being the good witch has come with many challenges, including the arrival of her late husband’s brother, Smangaliso Mthethwa – aka her ex-lover with whom she cheated on Bheki. Yeah, MaMngadi’s past is something she’s not proud of, and it has come back to haunt her.

Ever since the passing of her husband, the family has been struggling to keep the farm they own afloat. Livestock keeps dying, and the farm’s employees have not received their salaries for the past two months. Everything that could go wrong on the farm is going wrong, and the sketchy brother is here to offer his helping hand, or so it seems.
In her attempt to save the family and the farm, MaMngadi has come to learn that Smangaliso is up to no good. Smangaliso’s agenda is to enrich himself by destroying all the hard work that has gone into the farm and MaMngadi cannot let that happen.
Unfortunately for her, Smangaliso isn’t the only problem she has to deal with in this second season.
MaMngadi’s sickly mother, who is just as wicked as her daughter, is also giving MaMngadi a hard time after she revealed to MaMngadi that for her to become healthier, she needs the heart of MaMngadi’s daughter Dumazile’s unborn child.
Determined to right her wrongs, MaMngadi is now stuck between a rock and a hard place.
After retiring from using witchcraft, she is now considering using her dark magic for the “betterment” of her family, but on the other hand, will she kill her own grandchild all in the name of saving her mother?
And would she also kill her children’s uncle to keep the farm?
Only time will tell.
