IMDb rating:With the explosion in true-crime documentaries and armchair detectives, Very Scary People is another welcome addition to the line-up.
Singer and actor Donnie Wahlberg hosts the series, which chronicles the dark and twisted lives of diabolical and well-known criminals such as Charles Manson, Aileen Wuornos, John Wayne Gacy, and the Rev Jim Jones. In other words, all the big names that come up when you Google “serial killer”.
With his New Kids on the Block days far behind him, Donnie Wahlberg has been playing detective himself in cop shows like Blue Bloods and has a recurring role in the Saw franchise – so perhaps he doesn’t seem like such an odd fit after all for this series that uses footage from the CNN archives to (ahem) flesh out the tales of the macabre. Each episode is two hours long and has a killer soundtrack.
Well worth a watch if true crime is your thing.
