The final season of epic Norse saga Vikings is here, direct to Showmax with episodes 1 and 2 available now and episodes 3-10 being added every Thursday. What should you expect? Ragnar Lothbrok’s sons will be wrapping up their destinies… in war. They’re vikings, and pillaging, plundering and all-out chaos is the name of the game for the boys.
Don’t worry – Season 6 is not a short season. There will be 20 episodes in total but split into two halves, released separately, just like previous seasons. And it’s also focusing on two of Ragnar’s most important sons: now-King Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) and cruel war-monger Ivar The Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen). And while Ivar is trying to conquer Russia, his real dream is ruling Kattegat, the tiny fishing and farming village his dead dad helped build.
The show is still Vikings, but it’s changed over the seasons. This is going to be a proper wrap to the story with characters we’ve come to know and love. As always, the long wait has been difficult, so you may want to re-binge from Season 1… you know, just to get back in the mood for viking life. The only sad part is that Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) is having a lesser role.
“Though New Beginnings (episode 1) feels more like a setup episode than a season premiere, its at times excessive exposition still offers insight into a group of characters undertaking profound life changes,” writes Dave Vitagliano of denofgeek.com.
