What’s new on DStv Now in March 2020

Calling all DStv Premium, Compact and Compact Plus subscribers - here's what to expect on your small screen this month!

Did you know that DStv subscribers get DStv Now for free, regardless of the DStv package? The app gives you the ability to livestream DStv shows and movies while you’re on the go and gives you access to Catch Up content, too, which means being able to watch series episodes and movies after they’ve aired.

In this article, we’re focusing on DStv Premium, Compact and Compact Plus, letting you know what to expect in the month of March on your DStv Now app. We start with our pick of the highlights, followed by listings by date, with Premium, Compact Plus and Compact each in their own section.

What’s on DStv Premium in March?

Here are the highlights that are exclusive to DStv Premium subscribers, who also have access to all the Compact and Compact Plus highlights.

American Horror Story S9

Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s anthology series (in 2019 we learned how all the seasons are connected) returns with season 9, titled 1984 – think slasher films and Jason Voorhees. This award-winning horror series stars and starred some of Tinseltown’s most famous faces like Jessica Lang, who won two Emmy’s; Lady Gaga, who won a Golden Globe in 2016 and Kathy Bates who also won an Emmy all for her work on the show. This season we see the return of Billie Lourd, Emma Roberts and Leslie Grossman. A group of friends work as councillors at Camp Redwood where they learn that evil has no curfew. Livestream it from Saturday, 14 March at 22:00, or watch it later on Catch Up.

Shameless S10

None of us could handle the end of Season 9 when Fiona (Emmy Rossum) exited the series after eight epic years on screen, but as soon as we wiped our tears away, we knew this award-winning dramedy would serve up greatness (or their version of it) with what’s left of the Gallagher clan. In recap, Lip is expecting a child, Frank is bedridden, Carl has to deal with the bad news about his future, Debbie deals with heartbreak and Ian (Cameron Monaghan, left the show in 2018, but returns as season regular in both season 9 and 10) is still in jail and Liam is still the same old smarty pants. But all of this is about to change when Debbie cooks up a new scam, Carl returns from military school and Frank continues to milk his injury. Livestream it from Tuesday, 17 March at 22:00, or watch it later on Catch Up.

American Idol S18

Since 2002, we’ve seen would-be singers audition to become the next pop sensation and 17 have proved lucky. With winners like Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Jordin Sparks and Scotty McCreery, it makes complete sense that only between 60 to 80 out of 10 000 people from each city’s audition makes it all the way to the Hollywood stage for the knock-out rounds. This Emmy-Award winning reality show has featured some of the most famous superstar judges in past seasons, from Jennifer Lopez and Paula Abdul to Mariah Carey. This year sees the return of Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan in the judges’ seats. And of course, we cannot forget about the cheerful host Ryan Seacrest who’s been nominated for an Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program Emmy for an incredible 11 times. Livestream it from Friday, 27 March at 19:00, or watch it later on Catch Up.

Little Fires Everywhere

Based on the book of the same name by author Celeste Ng, comes this limited series examining the complexities of morals and motherhood, set in the 90s. Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington both star and co-executive produce this show, so we know we are in for a well-crafted piece of television. When the wealthy Elena (Witherspoon) meets the destitute Mia (Washington) and her daughter, she sets off a chain of events that will leave her house up in flames… literally. Just like the book, the series will tackle the narratives of race, class and privilege. Livestream it from Monday, 30 March at 21:00, or watch it later on Catch Up.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey S10

We can’t wait until our favourite guilty pleasure is back on our screens this month. Six very demanding but equally glamorous housewives return for season 10 and we know it’s going to be an epic showdown of catfights, backstabbing, lies and of course, fun! If this isn’t enough reason to watch this show then here’s another; one of the housewives, 40-year-old Melissa Gorga, recently made her New York Fashion week debut modelling two beautiful gowns for fashion designer Ryan Patros. Livestream it from Monday 9 March on weekdays at 18:00, or watch it on Catch Up.

The Real Housewives of Orange County S14

They reside in one of the wealthiest neighbourhoods in the US, and the fine ladies of Orange County make no apologies for their affluence, nor should they! With so many outspoken personalities, there’s bound to be clashes and fights, but oh boy, it’s nothing a little retail therapy and a luxury trip to an exotic Italian villa or French wine estate couldn’t fix – all first class of course. It’s all about sisterhood, love of all the finer things in life. Livestream from Thursday 19 March at 20:30 or watch it on Catch Up.

Growing Up Hip Hop S1

It’s just not easy to grow up with a famous parent and that’s exactly what this reality series looks at. Affectionately known as Big Papi, David Ortiz tries out bartending, firefighting and even had a short stint as a fisherman. Not one to enjoy retirement and just chilling at home, Big Papi takes on the road and even though he is one of the best to grace the baseball field, he’s quite hilarious at trying his hand at all manner of professions. Livestream from Wednesday 25 March at 22:00 or watch it on Catch Up.

The Shop S2

There is just no way you cannot know who LeBron James is. The 35-year-old LA Lakers Forward is not only basketball royalty, off the field he hosts a talk series set inside a classic black-owned barbershop, where he and other high-profile guests discuss various topics from race, fatherhood and politics. In season 2, LeBron sits down with rapper Meek Mill, rapper and media personality 2 Chainz, actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence and many more. Livestream from Monday 30 March at 21:00 or watch it on Catch Up.
