Set in an alternate version of the modern US (without the internet, for one thing) where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws, the dark fantasy series is based on the underground graphic novel of the same name, and poses the question “Who watches the Watchmen?”. One group of vigilantes rise up to revolt against the regime, while others team up to stop them.
The central figure in the original comic-book story was Rorschach, a vigilante with an ever-changing mask. Rorschach died in the books, but he’s very much alive in the show. He inspires a White Supremacist group to start wearing masks, and in response, the police also begin to hide their identities.
The cast includes Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons as Adrian Veidt, also known as Ozymandias, a brilliant vigilante; fellow Oscar-winner Regina King as Detective Angela Abar/Sister Night; TV legend Don Johnson as police Chief Judd Crawford; and Robert Redford as President Robert Redford, who’s been in office since 1992.

Watchmen will be streaming on M-Net on the DStv Now app and on Showmax at the same time, with new episodes every Monday at 21:00, from 21 October 2019.
