IMDb rating: 6.7/10
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 88%
In 2032, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is running for President of the United States. In order to prove he is like the everyday American, he sits down for an interview with Randall Park, now a journalist, and begins discussing his childhood.
Not only does this series gives us a look at how his background and childhood shaped him, it also lets us in on the wild world of professional wrestling when we see how The Rock first started in the sport and soon shot to stardom.
Salon.com says, “People struggling to wrap their arms around initial episodes of Young Rock may find a reason to stick around in the show’s outstanding crew of actors impersonating such ’80s-era wrestling legends as Ric Flair and Iron Sheik”, and IndieWire praises the diversity of the cast: “It’s also unfortunately rare to see this many people of color on one broadcast TV show, and Young Rock benefits from the carefully chosen group filled with distinct, vibrant personalities.”
New episodes land every week on DStv online, with episode 2 arriving on 26 March 2021.
