Zodwa Wabantu: uncensored and unapologetic

She’s loud. She’s proud. And you’d better think twice about telling her what to do. By TV Plus

Zodwa Wabantu might’ve started her public career as a dancer, but she’s got bigger and better things planned than just twerking around a stage. Cue reality doccie series Zodwa Wabantu: Uncensored – you can find it on DStv Now.

“I’m super-happy for how they accept me and my show,” says the 33-year-old, whose full name is Zodwa Rebecca Libram. “Everything I have been saying is what people see and they have showered me with love. Most of the people had wonderful things to say.”

Not quite the Ks

If you’re expecting a Kardashian-like reality series, you’re in the wrong place. “It’s just me. As I am. Without filters. I don’t try to change myself for fame. The whole show is exactly that,” says Zodwa defiantly.

And she’s not joking about filtering out content. This is the performer who was banned from events in Zimbabwe in 2017 reportedly by now-overthrown president Robert Mugabe, revealed in 2017 that she was hooking up with businessman celebrity Mandla Mthembu when he was still married to socialite actress celebrity Khanyi Mbau and makes no excuse for often going to events commando in very revealing dresses.

She adds: “This is who I am. I am not fake and I don’t care what people say about me. At the end of the day, I am one responsible human being. Don’t judge me based on those pictures.”

You get what you see

Zodwa Wabantu: Uncensored is a fly-on-the-wall series and you’re going to get full access to Zodwa. “I’m not here to hide. I speak about my career. My family. My childhood that was not pleasant.”

And while she’s glam from head to toe, Zodwa isn’t spending half the episodes in the make-up chair a la Kim Kardashian either. “All I need is hair food moisturiser for my natural hair and vaseline for my body. I have travelled everywhere from Swaziland to London for work. I don’t waste money. I don’t buy long weaves. When I am at work, I am Zodwa Wabantu. But when I come home, I am loved by my family as Zodwa Rebecca.”

So if you’re looking for something toned down and chill for the weekend, you’re not getting it here. Zodwa is in your face but she’s as real as they come. And that makes her and her show all the more entertaining and interesting.
